Bio

Our loving mother returned home to her Heavenly Father on October 4, 2008 at CareSource Hospice in Holladay, Utah, after a short illness. She resided at 1611 West Cornerstone Drive (10135 South) in South Jordan, Utah at the time of her death. Sue was born to Abby and Frank Smith on April 28, 1932 in Copperton, Utah. She was the fifth of eight children. On February 14, 1953, Sue married the love of her life, William K. "Bill" Groves. They lived most of their adult lives in Midvale, Utah with wonderful neighbors and friends. Sue loved unconditionally and her family always came first. She spent most of her life as a dedicated caregiver for her eldest son Cliff, who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident at the age of 19. She will always be remembered as having a loving heart and a listening ear. Her door was always open to friends and family alike. Sue was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Always teaching by example, "the importance of education," Sue received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah, and her Master of Science in Child Nursing from Brigham Young University. She worked at Salt Lake County General Hospital and spent 21 years serving as a School Nurse for Jordan District. Sue especially enjoyed working with and caring for the diverse population of children at Midvale Elementary School. After the loss of her dear husband Sue relocated to South Jordan where she and Cliff felt truly blessed to be surrounded by such caring new friends. Special thanks to Joy and Roy Hedin. Sue is survived by four of her children, Cliff Groves, Bill Groves (Pam), Lisa Putnam (Greg) and Lori Heaton (Tim); eight grandchildren, Julie Browne (Barry), Brian, Greg, Sarah, and Megan Hayward, Ian, Connor and Hayden Heaton; two sisters, Lorraine Kilborn, Peggy Ward; two brothers, David and Robert Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant daughter, Julie; sisters, Carol and Virginia; and brother, Richard. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Jordan River Ridge 8th Ward Chapel located at 10194 South 1050 West. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary located at 8090 South State Street and on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Church. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Published in the Deseret News from 10/7/2008 - 10/8/2008.
