Bio
Richard Smith Peterson passed away May 10, 2008. He was born July 11, 1924, in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Franklin David and Abbie Smith Peterson. He married Ramona Nielson on September 16, 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple. He served in the US Navy during World War II and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Utah State University. Later he received master's and doctorate degrees in education from the University of Utah. His lifelong influence as a teacher and science educator was felt throughout the state of Utah. Dick had a great love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and faithfully served in the LDS Church as a bishop, stake presidency counselor, temple worker, and patriarch. He loved the youth and enjoyed 15 years as a priests quorum advisor. He and his wife also served together as missionaries in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. He is survived by his wife, Ramona, of Midvale; children: Steve (Cathy) Peterson, president of the Hawaii Honolulu Mission; Reed (Linda) Peterson, Mesa, Arizona; Kristie Thompson, West Jordan; Mike (Cara) Peterson, Sandy; Sheri (Roger) Terry, Orem; 22 grand-children; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sisters, Lorraine (Tom) Kilborn, Sue Groves, David Peterson, Peggy Ward, and Bob (Pat) Peterson. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Carol Muir and Virginia Stoddard. Funeral Services will be held Mon., May 19, at noon at the Midvale Stake Center, 8171 South Jackson Street (250 West), Midvale. A visitation for Family and Friends will be held Sun., May 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street and Mon. at the Midvale Stake Center from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the Services.
