Published in The News Courier, Athens, Alabama, February 13, 2007. The funeral for Charles Wayne Patterson, 69, of Athens, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Jenkins of the First Baptist Church of Decatur officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Patterson died Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Patterson was a 20-plus-year member, past president and member of the board of directors of the Limestone County Cattlemen's Association. Recently, Mr. Patterson was the named honoree of the 2007 Annual Scholarship granted by the Limestone County Cattlemen's Association, which promotes agriculture to youth. He was also past president and founding member of the North Alabama Polled Hereford Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, where he served as an usher and greeter. Mr. Patterson had retired from Monsanto in Decatur after more than 38 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his spouse, Betty Hester Patterson of Athens; two daughters, Melanie Bodiford of Athens and Kristie LaHue of Birmingham; and four grandchildren, Emmie, Chapman, and Sophie Bodiford of Athens and Molly LaHue of Birmingham. Mr. Patterson had suffered over a five-year battle with cancer and left an indelible mark on all those who watched him fight his disease.
