Thanks to contributor #47226369; John Zocholl Rites At St. Josaphat's Church Friday Death Occurred Early Wednesday Morning; Burial At Ashton John Joseph Zocholl was born in Poland March 9, 1862, the son of John and Constavee Zocholl. He came to this country with his parents at the age of 17, residing at Chicago. In 1879 the family moved to Howard county. Later Mr. Zocholl homesteaded near Paplin. On February 14, 1882 he married Miss Antonia Mysenski at the St. Anthony Church, Posen, Nebraska. Several years later, he disposed of his homestead and bought a farm in Sherman county near Ashton. In 1918, with his family, he moved to a farm 8 miles west of Loup City, where they lived for 3 years, moving to Ogallala in 1922 on account of his wife's health. Mrs. Zocholl passed away May 12, 1923. Two children also preceeded [sic] him in death, Mary, at 13, and Mrs. Anna Swantkowski, at 26 years. Since October 3, 1925, Mr. Zocholl made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed John where he passed away November 5, 1941, at 4:45 a. m. after a short illness. He was preceeded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Frances Stenka, Mrs. Cecelia Garecki (Gorecki), Mrs. Anna Tismer (Tesmer) and Velantina Preuczek (Valentina Prenczek), and one brother, August Zocholl. Besides his children, he is survived by 39 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His children are Frank Zocholl and Priscilla John of Loup City, Martha Kosmicki and Theresa Kosmicki of Alliance, Frances Kosmicki of Ogallala, Ed Zocholl of Maywood, Calif., Catherine Lorenz of Spokane, Wash., Pete of Ansley, Barbara Robinson of Camas, Wash. Funeral services were at 9 o'clock Friday from St. Josaphat's Church, conducted by Fr. Leonard Ziolkowski. Pallbearers were Vincent John, John Kosmicki and four nephews of the deceased, Stanley Siwinski, John Blaczy, Leo Tesmer, Steve Pilakowski. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Ashton, conducted by Fr. Jarzemski. The Sherman County Times - Nov 12 1941
