COMMUNITY MOURNS DEATH OF MRS. JOHN SONNENFELD Ashton people mourned the death of Mrs. John Sonnenfeld, nee Marcella Lorchick, last Saturday morning when the body was tenderly laid to rest in the St. Francis cemetery. Ailing for quite some tine, from liver and kidney trouble, Mrs. Sonnenfeld quietly passed away Thursday afternoon, June 22, 1933 at 1:10 P.M. Her husband had preceded her in death only a few months ago, having passed away December 3, 1932. Marcella Lorchick was born in Germany on April 15, 1850, and passed away at Ashton, Nebraska, June 22, 1933, at the advanced age of eighty three years, two months, seven days. In the days of her youth she lived with her parents in the old country and at the age of twenty-four, married John Sonnenfeld on June, 1874. In the year 1878 the couple came to America and settled in Pittsburgh, Penn. where Mr. Sonnenfeld worked in the steel mills for about a year, then moving to Long Island, N.Y. He found work ther trucking vegetables to the New York market. He worked in the truck gardens and in his transportation work far about four years, when they migrated to Nebraska, in the year 1881, and here they took a homestead on a place located six miles north of Ashton. It was on this farm that the couple reared a large family, of whom all but one remain to mourn thier death; their first child died in infancy. They farmed their homestead for forty-four years, until 1925, when they moved to Ashton in retirement, to the home place where both of them passed away, their deaths coming less than seven months apart. Their last wedding anniversary was celebrated June 15, 1932, at which time they had been married fifty-eight years. Mrs. Sonnenfeld was the mother of nine children; five daughters, Pauline, Mary Shuda, Annia Vincent and Julia Vincent, all of Ashton, and Lucy Vincent of Sargent; and four sons, Anton of Ashton, Frank of Loup City, Stanley of Farwell, and Joe of Ord. She had four brothers who preceded her in death, and one sister older than she, who was last heard from when in Europe, some twenty years ago, and , at this time, it is not know whether she is living or dead. She also leaves thirty grandchildren and nineteen great grand children, many relatives and a host of friends. To her relatives, and especially to the children, who mourn the death of their good mother, we extend our deepest sympathy. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sonnenfeld, who passed away within the past seven months, were highly respected by everyone, and were regarded as prosperous farmers and they will be missed by many. They lived a good life and prospered, taking the best of care of their fine family, who now sorrowfully mourn their deaths. Funeral services were held at the St. Francis Catholic church on Saturday morning at nine o'clock with Rev. Father Jarzenski in charge, officiating at very impressive services. Interment was made at the St. Francis cemetery. The pall bearers were Mungo Vincent, Frank Lorchick, Frank, Stanley, Anton, and Joe Sonnenfeld. (Only missing child, Anna Mary (1881 NY-1961 Grand Island, NE) m. Mungo John Vincent (1875 CAN-1957 Ashton, NE)
