AUSTIN -- The funeral for John H. Freese Jr. will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Mr. Freese, 64, of Owatonna, formerly of Austin, died Wednesday (Sept. 3, 2008) at his home. John Henry Freese Jr. was born May 19, 1944, in rural Austin. He attended school in Brownsdale and Rose Creek and was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He enjoyed visiting his family for Sunday dinner, listening to Vikings and Twins games, and gospel and country western music, particularly Johnny Cash. He especially loved to be around children. Survivors include four sisters, Rose (Cecil) Haskin of Denver, Iowa, Peggy Batdorf and Joyce Chapek, both of Albert Lea, and Pearl Ferguson of Austin; five brothers, Jacob (Karen) of Grand Meadow, Frank of Austin, Joe (Betty) of Minneapolis, Raymond of Austin and Ward (Sue) of Blooming Prairie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby (Truhlar) Freese; and a brother, Elmer. Visitation will be an hour before the service at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. The family prefers memorials. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary of Austin is in charge of arrangements.
