Mildred was raised in Mesquite. She graduated from Mesquite High School in 1937 and from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Houston, Texas in 1940. She married Charles A. Behrens, M.D. in 1941. They had five children. She worked at St. Joseph's until 1974, when she and Dr. Behrens moved to College Station, Texas. In 1979, Mildred began working at the Student Health Center as a nurse. She was the nurse during the summers of 1990, 1991, and 1992 on the Texas Clipper (training excursions for Texas A&M students). In 1993 she began working for Hospice Brazos Valley in College Station, Texas. Sadly, Charles passed away in 1985. In 1994, Mildred moved to Dallas, where she located a sweetheart from 58 years ago, Ray Rabalais of Thibodaux, Louisiana. After a renewed courtship, they married in March of 1998 (Steve Blow featured their romance in his column in the Dallas Morning News). She and Ray moved to Thibodaux. After Ray's death in August 2005, Mildred moved back to Dallas. She was survived by her four children, her brother, her sister, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles Behrens; her husband of seven years, Raphael Rabalais; her son, George Behrens; her son-in-law, Robert Snider and her daughter-in-law, Rosemary Meister Behrens. Also predeceasing her were her brothers, Ernest Garrett, G.W. Garrett and Lewis Garrett; and sisters, Ruth Geneva Garrett, Marion Donnie Garrett, Pansy Garrett Park and Audra Garrett Jorns.
