Bio
The Malakoff News Jan. 12, 1962 Will Shumate Dies Suddenly Tuesday At His Home Here. William Houston Shumate, 81, well-known Malakoff resident for many years, died suddenly at his home in the Bartlett addition at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 9th. He had spent the night in the nearby home of his son, Calvin, and had walked to his home earlier in the morning. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Orand officiating. Interment, with the arrangements under the direction of the Caroll-Lehr Funeral Home, will be in the Malakoff Cemetery. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. L. L. (Lena Belle Shumate) Vieregge, and three sons, Chester, Calvin (William), and John Shumate all of Malakoff. Also 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
