MABEL HARDIN WHITAKER CARTER, 97, of Memphis, homemaker, died Monday at Saint Francis Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church Hope Sunday School Class. Mrs. Carter, the widow of Arbie D. Whitaker and Harley Carter, leaves a daughter, Elise Melvin of Memphis; a son, Elvin Whitaker of Melrose, Fla., 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
