Mass of Christian Burial for Leo Joseph Katzfey, 79, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lawrence. Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Eudora. Mr. Katzfey died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born May 27, 1918, in Pierce City, Mo., the son of Joseph H. and Anna E. Witt Katzfey. He had lived in Lawrence for 45 years. He worked as a foreman in the plumbing, tin and refrigeration shop at Kansas University for 35 years. He retired in 1983. Mr. Katzfey helped to build the current Knights of Columbus Hall and was involved in volunteer work in the church and community. Memberships include St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and he was a 45-year member of the Knights of Columbus, of which he was a Fourth Degree Knight. On July 21, 1942, he married Mary Margaret Kelly in Sarcoxie, Mo. She survives of the home. Other survivors include twin daughters, Joan Fowler and JoAnn Johnston, both of Lawrence; four brothers, Bernard, Lawrence, Joe, Eudora, Lawrence, Sarcoxie, Mo., and Frances, St. Charles, Mo.; five sisters, Emma Palmer and Bernadine Adamson, both of Sarcoxie, Marie Wormington, Pierce City, Mo., Louise Eck, Maryville, Mo., Anna Mae Gruber, Eudora; and six grandchildren.
