One of the most confusing coroner's inquests ever held in Cheyenne took place this morning with Judge Edwards acting coroner, to determine who should sign the death certificate of Cora May Harter, who died late last week of influenza. It was ultimately decided that the coroner should sign the certificate and allow the funeral, which will be held tomorrow at 2:30 to be held. According to testimony brought out at the inquest. Dr. Shingle was first called to handle the case. After a short time, he gave Mrs. Harter up, stating that she could only live for a few hours. Dr. Beard also pronounced her death a matter of hours, and he too gave her up, according to testimony of her husband. In an effort to save his wife, if there was any possible chance. W.W. Quinn, chiropractor, was called. He at first declined to take the case, according to evidence submitted, but finally accepted it, and worked with the patient for many hours. She appeared to rally somewhat, according to testimony at the inquest, but died later. Upon her death, Dr. Shingle, who had been discharged from the case, refused to sign the death certificate. Under the law of the state of Wyoming, Quinn, who is not practicing medicine could not legally sign it, hence it was impossible to bury the body. An inquest was called this morning, and after several witnesses had been examined, it was decided that Judge Edwards, as acting coroner, should sign the death certificate. © Wyoming State Tribune no. 206 August 10, 1921, page 1 No other article regarding her death appeared in local papers.
