Verna Kofford Obituary Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Nov. 29, 2025. Verna Sorensen Clement Kofford finally learned to let others serve her and after 94 years of wearing out her body in service to others, she returned to her Heavenly Parents. She passed on Nov. 22, 2025 and was welcomed by several family members including two husbands, a son, a step-son, a sister, her parents and so many friends. Verna Sorensen was born in Centerfield, Utah on July 25, 1931 and loved to celebrate her birthdays with fireworks and homemade ice cream. She was the oldest child of LeVoy and Thella Sorensen. Verna was a great example to her two sisters and baby brother. Being raised on a farm taught her how to work hard and to enjoy nature despite hay and animal allergies which aggravated her asthma. Verna was very popular in high school and was first president of the Gunnison Valley High School Pep Glam-ettes, a pep-club. Verna graduated from Gunnison Valley High then earned a certificate from LDS Business School. She married her high school sweetheart, Levor Clement, in 1952. He served in the Korean War, taking them to France where he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and subsequently passed away leaving Verna widowed at age 24. She then received her LPN and worked at a doctor's office until at age 31 when she was called on a mission to New Zealand where she came to love and adore the Maori people. After her mission, Verna returned and earned her associate degree at Snow College and then transferred to BYU. She wanted to get her teaching degree and return to New Zealand and teach the Maori children. This dream changed when she met Keith Kofford at a singles dance and he convinced her to marry him in 1967 and become a stepmother to his two boys, Don and Evan. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Benka and Tyler. Sadly Tyler was born with a heart defect and only lived ten days. Verna never thought she would be a mother so she really enjoyed this role and was a fun mother and grandmother. She loved celebrating Strawberry Days and July 4th, having big family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, picking raspberries, jumping in leaves, teaching her granddaughters to make hollyhock dolls, weenie roasts in the canyon and being the best cheerleader. Whatever the sport or parade her kids or grandkids were in you could hear her cheering. Not only did she cheer family in sports, she loved to watch BYU basketball and football and the Jazz like her daddy. Food was her love language. She loved to cook and offered to feed those who came to her home. She was always taking meals to sick neighbors and friends even into her 90's. She was known to make lunch for strangers working in her home or yard. She always was serving. Not only did she feed everyone she also cared for Levor for a year as he suffered with cancer, she also cared for Keith for 11 years after he had a stroke and Parkinson's disease, her daddy for 4 years until he turned 100 and Evan when he just needed a place to stay. She loved driving her widow friends weekly to the temple until COVID closed the temples. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. She was a MIA teacher, Primary and Relief Society President, Relief Society Teacher, Ward and Stake Primary Secretary, Relief Society Secretary in the Alpine Care Home Branch, temple name extraction worker, temple worker in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples and the best visiting teacher and minister. While Verna learned to be served she was blessed by Enhabit Hospice nurses Jared and Addison, social worker Heather, chaplain Doug, and volunteers Brooke and Mary. They served her faithfully and were blessed by her love and appreciation. Verna is survived by her daughter Benka (Todd) Kerby, step-son Don (Dena) Kofford, a sister Yvonne Funk, brother Darwin (JoAnne) Sorensen, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Alma Levor Clement Jr and Keith V Kofford, son Tyler Kofford, stepson Evan Kofford, sister Leah Beckstrom, and her parents Thella and LeVoy Sorensen. Services are under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
