D. E. Mankins Taken--Death Yesterday Ukiah friends were shocked yesterday morning when the news went about town that D. E. Mankins had passed away. His death occurred about 10:30. He had been feeling well the night before but was indisposed yesterday morning and remained in bed. Death came very suddenly, and was due to heart trouble, from which he had been suffering ever since an attack of influenza over a year ago. Arrangements for the funeral had not been announced as we went to press. Mr. Mankins was a native of California, being born in this state about 1856 or 1857, and coming to Ukiah with his parents about 1867. He leaves to mourn his passing a widow and five children, as follows: Mrs. Marvin Laughlin, Mrs. Clarence Lynch, Mrs. Grover Niepp, Miss Lydia and Bert Mankins. Two sisters--Mrs. Sam Orr and Mrs. R. E. Donohoe--and a brother, Ed. Mankins, also survive. The deceased was an honest, upright citizen, of unimpeachable integrity and one whom it was an honor to have claimed as friend. The community will join in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow. Source: Dispatch Democrat Ukiah City, California Friday, October 22, 1920, p.1
