Carl Wesley Lee was born to the late William Cecil and Edith May Hoagland Lee. Carl spent his early childhood in Evansville, Indiana where his family lived while his father worked in the shipyard helping with the construction of the LSTs for the warfront. He went to kindergarten in Evansville, beginning his lifelong involvement with education. After the family moved back to McLean County, he was enrolled at Sacramento Elementary School and was a 1957 graduate of Sacramento High School. Carl then graduated from Western Kentucky State Teachers College in 1961. While at Western, he participated in ROTC and upon his graduation, he entered the regular army in 1961 as a 2nd Lieutenant and was sent to Korea, where he spent two years. Upon his discharge from the regular army, he joined the 100th infantry division army reserves in Madisonville, where he was promoted to the rank of Captain before his retirement. Carl joined the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church on May 17, 1953. After he was discharged from the military, Carl began his teaching career at White Plains in Hopkins County where he taught for four years. He then began teaching in McLean County where he stayed for 36 years until his retirement. The majority of his years of service to McLean County were in Livermore. Carl was a caregiver to his mother, during the last years of her life, he lived with her and cared for her until her death in 1999. Following his diagnosis of kidney failure, he moved into assisted living at the Courtyard in Central City, where he made many friends and received excellent care.
