George J. Maywald, b. 9/12/22 d. 7/27/08. During most of his 85 years George was serving first in the Air Force for over 20 years, then at Lockheed Aircraft for 17 years training German pilots at Luke AFB and then bagging groceries at the Luke Commissary until retirement in 2006. He was born in Houston, Texas and grew up with 3 brothers and one sister. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1941 prior to the start of WW11 and helped open Luke AFB. He met his bride of 66 years at a Glendale high football game. He and Lona raised 5 children,. All live in Arizona and all have work ethic. George traveled a lot for the Air Force and then for pleasure going to Mexico, South America and Australia. He is survived by his wife Lona, five children, James Maywald, Rhonda Andrews, David Maywald, Donna Jill Valencia and Tammy Rauschenbach, his sister Mary Lou Hegar, a brother, Steve maywald, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild plus multiple aunts, uncles. cousins, nieces and nephews. He will. Be deeply missed by his family, friends at the commissary and also at the Luke AFB bowling lanes where he was a regular bowler every Friday night. He will be honored at a funeral service on Wednesday at 9am at Palm Funeral Home in Sun city and interred at the National Memorial Cemetery in phoenix, AZ. Visitation to precede the service.
