Elizabeth Dell Nedbalek "Betty", 92, of Loveland entered into rest on August 5, 2025. Betty was born in Wellsville, Missouri on April 10, 1933, to Willie Juanita Hays (Haslip). When Betty was around 3 years old, it became necessary for Willie to take a position in Colorado caring for the children of a family to try and make money to support herself and Betty. The family would not allow Willie to have Betty live with them, so she was left in Missouri with her father's parents. They cared for her for about a year but could no longer afford to keep her. When Betty was around 4, she was put on a train headed to Denver, CO with two men that someone in the family knew. Arriving in Denver there was no place for her to sleep or stay, so she was put in an orphanage until she was 6. Willie would visit Betty every weekend until family members moved to Golden, CO and they were able to move into their basement. Betty had an uncle that would lay out her "pretty clothes" for church. On Christmas Eve he would wake her and the two of them would attend midnight mass. When Betty was 10 years old Willie married David Charvonia. He waited to adopt her until she was 18 and could make the choice herself, but he was always her Daddy. After graduating in 1951 from College High in Greeley, CO, Betty married Merle Bernhardt in Bremerton, WA while he was stationed there. He was eventually transferred to Aurora, CO where Jerry, Neta and Vic were born before moving to Loveland, CO in 1959 when he left the Navy. In 1966 Betty married Robert "Bob" Nedbalek adding his children Robby, Sandy, Bonnie and Steven to create one big, blended family. Bob and Betty owned and operated Brown's Corner Sporting Goods in Loveland, CO and then went on to enjoy a variety of opportunities that took them all around the country, traveling with their 5th wheel trailer. Bob and Betty enjoyed meeting people everywhere they went and acquired many dear friends through the years. They lived in NE, CO, AZ, back to CO, back to AZ then CO. Betty enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, antiques, anything Southwestern or Native American, and reading lots of books. When her eyesight failed, she turned to watching her Westerns and the Hallmark Channel. Her favorite thing was doing anything with her family. Upon moving back to Colorado one final time, Bob and Betty arrived at Brookdale Fort Collins during COVID. They had to deal with living in separate sections of the facility and had very limited visits dictated by outbreaks. After 5 months her husband of 55 years passed away. To fill her days Betty would participate in any available activities, assist staff when she could and help new residents, not only adjust but thrive in their new community. Betty blossomed into a well-known and loved Brookdale Welcome Ambassador. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents; first husband; and grandsons Cory Bernhardt and Todd Nedbalek. She is survived by children; Pastor Rob (Lori) Nedbalek of Deer Lodge, MT; Jerry (Sandy) Bernhardt of Loveland, CO; Sandy (Jerry) Bernhardt of Loveland, CO; Neta Brandt of Sun City, AZ; Bonnie (Lowell) Jacobsen of Fort Collins, CO; Vic (Beth) Bernhardt of Fort Collins, CO; and Steven Sible of Phoenix, AZ.
