Bio

Helen Jo (Trojacek) Novy, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, at her home surrounded by her children. Helen was born on January 21, 1939, to Jerry and Rosie (Dolezal) Trojacek in Ennis. She graduated from St. John High School in 1957. She worked for Ennis Business Forms after graduating high school. On November 3, 1962, she married Rayford Milton Novy. They made their home in Ennis and a few years later built their family home on the Novy farm. To this union, four children were born. Mom was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Education and schooling were very important to Helen, and she encouraged all her children and grandchildren to attain higher education. Family was also very important to her. She attended most school band concerts, football games, FFA events, and graduations that her children and grandchildren participated in. She was the number one fan for her five grandchildren. Helen loved hosting Christmas Eve dinner, as well as the annual Easter Egg hunt. She was most excited in the last few years with the birth of her four great-grandchildren and looked forward to the upcoming birth of number five in December. Helen was a homemaker and took pride in her large vegetable garden. She canned homemade vegetables, made plum jelly, homemade strudel, peach cobbler, and candies. She loved to sew, making some of her own clothes and clothes for her children. Helen also loved to embroider, crochet, and each winter and summer you would find her quilting with her girls. After raising her children, she returned to work as a baker for several EISD schools. She was known for baking the best homemade hot rolls in the district and school administrators routinely visited her kitchen for lunch. Upon reflection of her career, she most enjoyed baking cookies for the children. At the end of her career, she managed several school kitchens which led her to travel to several annual conventions. Travel became a passion for Helen in her later years, and she started her new adventure with Mary's Tours which took her to many southern states over the years, of which Branson, Missouri was her favorite. This sparked interest in taking cruises to Alaska, the Bahamas, and Nova Scotia. She traveled on to Europe visiting her families' homeland in the Czech Republic, and then to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Helen was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJZT and SPJST. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Rayford Novy, her son, Ronnie Novy, her parents Jerry and Rosie (Dolezal) Trojacek, and her brother Emil J. Trojacek. Mass of the Christian burial will be on Thursday, August 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
