Bio
Thomas Frank Vontur, 80, of Ridgeway, Va., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on July 25, 2025. He was born on Dec. 4, 1944, in Floresville, Texas, to Louis Steve Vontur Sr. and Emma Gassmann Vontur. Thomas was an army veteran and dedicated truck driver for over 50 years. He had driven for General Electric, Ronnie Peter's trucking, Consolidated Freight, and Roadway. He attended first through 12th grade at Floresville ISD. He graduated from Floresville High School in 1963 and was a proud Tiger. He and his wife always tried to attend the Floresville alumni gatherings. The Vontur family reunions were always the first weekend in October, so he and Marie could then attend the alumni reunion. Tommy was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, classmate, friend, and proud Floresville Tiger. He will be missed. Thomas always loved and was dedicated to taking care of his family. He volunteered at The Spencer-Penn Centre and St. Francis Springs Prayer Center. He took loving care of his wife for many years. He was loved and will be missed by many. He will forever be in our hearts and minds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Vontur, and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Valcher. A visitation was held at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C., on Thursday, July 31, from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service was held on Friday, Aug. 1, at St. Joseph of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Mt. View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Va., immediately following the service.
