Private John S. Staley of Sullivan (Moultrie Co, IL) mustered on Sept 4, 1862, in Company "A", 126th Illinois Infantry. He died in La Grange, TN on Dec 24, 1862. (per Illinoisgenweb.org). Some descendants of his daughter, Sarah Staley Marlow, thought that her father, John Staley, died of measles during the Civil War and that Sarah's middle name was "La Grange". Sarah was born 2 months after her father died. John Staley's birth year is estimated from the 1860 Illinois census.
