Bio

Coweta Ann (Bullard) Brown was born September 14, 1938 to Granville and Tretty Bullard of Kinta, Oklahoma, and passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at an extended care facility in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was 86 years old. Known to everyone as "Co", she was very much a country girl at heart. She spoke often of her humble upbringing, living on a family farm and raising whatever they ate. She went first through 12th grade at Kinta schools where she graduated as Salutatorian for the Class of 1956. The work ethic she learned as a farm child would follow her throughout her life, working in banks first in California, then New York and Stigler, and even as a receptionist for Mallory Funeral home. In December of 1957 she married Kenneth Brown, and they moved to Niagara Falls, NY where Kenneth was stationed in the Army, daughter Dana Kay and son Jeffrey Ray was born. Coweta and Kenneth returned to Stigler in 1960 and made their family home in Stigler. She went to work very soon for Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative, first as a billing clerk, eventually working her way up to Office Manager. She retired in 2003 after almost 43 years of service. Co was a devout Christian, and made sure her children were in church every Sunday and Sunday night and any other "special" church gathering. She taught High School level Sunday School for decades, then adults for another several years. A self-taught Bible scholar, her knowledge was so deep that ministers often would call on her Bible expertise from the pulpit. With a beautiful singing voice, she was a mainstay at First Christian Church of Stigler. She held her membership there for more than 50 years, from 1960 until its closing. She kept her membership in the Christian Church, then joined Rocky Ridge Baptist Church and attended every time her health permitted. Coweta's kitchen was a whirlwind of activity almost her entire married life, and her cooking skills are still talked about. Wonderful food and the kitchen table were the center of every family gathering. She loved to travel and enjoyed a vast number and great variety of friends. Her bright smile and easy manner drew people to confide in her like no other. But far and away, her family was her most important achievement and greatest enjoyment. She is survived by a daughter, Dana (Brown) Davis and husband Ray, a son, Jeff Brown; two grandsons: Kellen Davis and wife Magen; Riley Davis and wife Shasta; and four great-grandchildren: Hudson Davis, Harlow Davis, Archer Davis and Ridge Davis. All her children and grandchildren live in Stigler. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, greats and great-greats. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Hurkless Bullard of Arkansas and James "Mutt" Bullard of Oklahoma City; three sisters and their spouses: Mary (Bullard) Cox and husband Lester, Naomi (Bullard) Lowrimore and husband Leo, Virginia "Judy" (Bullard) Speer and husband Chester; and her much beloved great-niece and great-nephew Wendy Speer and Adam Speer. Viewing will be held at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Stigler from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 30; from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 31; and from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Friday, August 1. A Funeral Service will be held at Mallory Chapel in Stigler at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 1, 2025 with Bro. Tommie Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Stigler City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
