Madeline Dorothy Palu August 10, 1929 — July 5, 2025 Loup City Madeline D. Palu, 95, of Loup City, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, also at the church with a 7 p.m. Parish Rosary. Madeline was born on August 10, 1929, north of Ashton in the Paplin area, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Wojtalewicz) Kuszak. It was here where she grew up and attended schools in the area. Her parents both died when she was young and she was then raised by her older sister, Evelyn. After completing her education, she started working as a waitress in Loup City café's. She was united in marriage to Harry W. Palu on May 20, 1947, in Loup City. The couple first lived in Loup City. Madeline began being a waitress at the Loup City Sale Barn, which she eventually became the Manager. For a number of years, she and Harry farmed in the Loup City area and for many years she and Evelyn Spotanski cleaned the St. Josaphat's Parish Center. Harry passed away on March 7, 2013 and Madeline continued to live in her home until this past week. She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. Madeline loved cleaning, cooking and baking. Her family loved her Angel Food Cakes and cookies. She is survived by one son and two daughters-in law, Jan Palu of Grand Island and Terry and Yvonne Palu of Loup City; six grandchildren, Alan and Tina Palu, Clint Palu, Carrie and Monty Hurlburt, Dori and Mike Dorsey, Kayla Berg, and Tanner and Jenna Palu; fifteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Palu of Loup City; many nieces and nephews; and her best friends, Marj Spotanski and Lois Molt, both of Loup City. In addition to her husband, Harry, she was preceded in death by her parents; Frank and Catherine; son, Ron Palu on Oct. 17, 2020; and her sisters and spouses, Theresa and Cash Turek, Elizabeth and Louie Lewandowski, Evelyn and Henry Thode and Lorraine and Dean Leighton.
