A graveside committal service for Luella M. Mudra will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Union Cemetery in rural Boxholm, Iowa. The Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Mrs. Mudra, 98, of Stewartville, died of natural causes Friday (July 18, 2008) at the Golden Living Center-Rochester East. She had been a resident of the care center since March of this year. Luella Marie Van Pelt was born Aug. 27, 1909, in Beaver Township, Boone County, Iowa. As a young girl she moved with her family to rural Austin, where she grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. In 1925, she married William E. Mudra in Austin. The couple resided in Austin, where they owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store. Mrs. Mudra also worked in a hair salon. The couple also farmed in rural Sargeant and the Rose Creek area. They were later divorced. After moving to Stewartville, she worked as a waitress at the High Forest Truck Stop until retiring. She enjoyed playing cards and always kept a positive, cheerful attitude. She is survived by a son, Gaylord of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by her parents, D. Albert Van Pelt and Valerie (Schilling) Van Pelt; two sisters and a brother. Griffin-Gray Funeral Home of Stewartville in handling arrangements.
