Nancy Lou Laurent went to meet her maker on May 17, 2025. Nancy was born as the first baby of the year on January 1, 1942, in Brainard, Nebraska to her parents Arthur and Adeline Kudlacek. She was the first of three children and enjoyed growing up in rural Nebraska. After high school, Nancy decided to put her generosity and caring spirit to use by studying to become a nurse in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is in Lincoln where Nancy met her future husband, Herman Laurent, as he was stationed there as an Air Force mechanic. They were married on July 20, 1963, and celebrated 61 years together as husband and wife. The couple spent the next years raising four kids while Nancy focused on her nursing talents and warm heart by helping women with prenatal care, obstetrics and mental health. She made sure to send her kids off to school with a hot breakfast multiple times a week, and somehow juggled the roll of mother, wife and nurse effortlessly. She, and the family, accompanied Herman around the country as his jobs required relocation. Always looking at the opportunities that these changes allowed, they relished the two years they spent in England which allowed them to explore Europe extensively. She enjoyed hosting people as they came to visit and be a tour guide as needed. They eventually retired in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2002, until moving back to Omaha, Nebraska in 2022, as her health began to decline. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, brother Loran Kudlacek, and daughter Barbara Laurent. She is survived by her husband, Herman Laurent; their daughter Sandie Kilton (Ed), sons, Mark Laurent (Linda) and Jack Laurent (Carla), her sister Bev Machacek, and sister-in-law Marleen Kudlacek. Her eight grandchildren: Mark Bodnar, Taylor Laurent, Megan Schoenleber (Bryan), Alexa Laurent, Christian Laurent, Rome Laurent, Ethan Kilton (Hannah), and Jackson Laurent, as well as two great grandchildren, Marlowe Schoenleber, and Athena Laurent. She will be greatly missed. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 14330 Eagle Run Dr., Omaha, NE 68164. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
