Born Frank V. Shalon. Married Stazie Juranek on on May 26, 1903 at Linwood, Nebr. by Rev. Wencel Pokorny, Roman Catholic pastor at Abie, Nebr. Enlisted as a Private in the 11th Infantry, Siberian Casual Company during World War I and was wounded in the war, the effects of which eventually lead to his death. At the time of his death he lived at the Arcade hotel in Omaha and was employed as a farm hand. For the details of his death see the Omaha Morning Bee-News , December 18, 1928, p. 3, col. 1. ''''''''''''''''' NOTE: Shalon is misspelled Shalom in the following obituary. The Schuyler Sun (Schuyler, Nebr.), January 3, 1929, p. 1, col. 1 FORMER LINWOOD MAN FOUND DEAD IN OMAHA James Shalom of Linwood and Mrs. Frank Marek of this city were called to Omaha last Friday to identify their brother, Frank Shalom, who was found dead in Omaha, December 18, and whose boy was held at the Johnson and Salantino mortuary for identification. Announcement of the death was made in the Omaha papers on the morning of December 18, as Frank Shalen, and as the deceased had been non-communicative with his brothers and sisters for many years, notice of his death was given no attention by the relatives. The remains were to have been buried in the Gretna cemetery last Friday, and in the meantime the man had been reported missing from the Arcadia [sic] hotel, where he had made his home, and investigation on the part of Omaha friends, located relatives, and they were informed of the probable relationship. Mrs. Marek and her brother James, readily identified the deceased as their missing brother, and arrangements were at once made for the funeral which was held on Saturday. Full military honors were given as had been arranged by the funeral directors, with soldiers from Ft. Crook in attendance. Frank Shalom was about 48 years of age, and is survived by one son, James, who has for several years made his home with his aunt near Edholm. Other surviving relatives are Mrs. Frank Marek, Mrs. Anton Hajek of this city; Mrs. Anton Brimm of Dwight, and Mrs. Stazie Krenk of Bee, Nebr., and a brother James at Linwood. From information which Mr. and Mrs. Marek were able to unravel, Mr. Shalom was in the military service during the World war, and had been stationed in Siberia, and was retired from the service with the rank of captain. The deceased was employed on a farm near Gretna last summer and suffered from overheat, and for many weeks thereafter suffered considerably from pains in his head, and had made his home at the Windsor and Arcadia [sic] hotels, Omaha. When a young man, Frank Shalom farmed near Linwood, and after a few years sold his farm in that locality, moving to Polk county, and later to Springfield, Neb., conducting a meat market there for a number of years. While a resident of Springfield, Mrs. Shalom and a baby daughter died, and Mr. Shalom then went to Wisconsin, and later enlisted in the service of his country. But little is known of the deceased, as he communicated with his relatives but little after the death of his wife, and baby.
