Bio
Harvey Jacob Demel, 84, of Decatur, TX, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Harvey was born August 7th, 1940 to Anton and Margaret (Ludmilla) Demel in Littlefield, Texas. He was united in marriage to LaDonna Martin in Las Vegas 25 years ago on February 26, 2000. Harvey was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many who will dearly miss him. Harvey proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966 and was a third-degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Margaret; his brothers, George Demel, Larry Demel, and Gaulbert Demel; his daughter-in-law, Donya Demel; and his brother-in-law Joe D. Heinrich. Harvey enjoyed farming, tending to his herd of cattle, fishing and playing cards with friends and family. His favorite evening was going outside with his toddy, talking and singing to the calves, even though he would not sing in church. In addition to his family, he will be greatly missed by El Torro (the resident bull) and the herd, Lilly Lu, and Maverick. The family wish to thank their amazing community of family, friends and neighbors for their unwavering love and support, as well as the dedicated teams at Medical City of Decatur ICU, Angels Care Hospice of Decatur, and office of Dr. Alling & Staff for their compassionate care. Services to honor Harvey's life are on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, TX. Family will greet friends 5-8 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm in the Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel. Additional Services to honor Harvey will be Lubbock, TX at Resthaven Funeral Home. Family will greet friends 12:30-2pm with services in the Resthaven Chapel at 2 pm with graveside services to follow.
