Bio

Harold Eugene Cave, 92, of Fort Worth and formerly of Sherman, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2008, at a Fort Worth hospital. Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Cave's son, Eddie Cave, and Phillip Elston, a nephew, will officiate. Interment: Mugg Cemetery. An honor guard from the U.S. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth will conduct military graveside honors. Visitation: The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to service time Wednesday in Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Harold was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Weston, the son of Aderah Edwin Cave and Hettie Mugg Cave. He graduated from Weston High School and attended North Texas Teachers College, now known as the University of North Texas, and Abilene Christian College. He married Mary Wilson on June 28, 1942, in Van Alstyne. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and received his basic training in Corpus Christi. He then served as a flight and aviator instructor for the Navy in Norman, Okla., until his honorable discharge in 1947. He was employed by Moore Business Forms in Fort Worth for 20 years and then worked as a government mediator and consultant for the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 17 years in Corpus Christi and Lubbock, overseeing many natural disasters that are now covered under FEMA. Harold had a love for flying and earned his commercial pilot's license even before he entered the Navy in 1942. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially flying, which he did as recently as 90 years old. He had recently moved to Fort Worth so that his family could care for him as his health began to fail. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and their spouses. Survivors: His wife, Mary Cave of Fort Worth; sons, Eddie Cave and his wife, Moody Lynn Cave, and Chuck Cave and his wife, Cindy Cave, all of Fort Worth; daughter, Shirley Lahmer of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
