Bio

Ronald Dale Raska was born in Rosenberg, Texas on July 8, 1946. He spent his early years in the Rosenberg and Beasley area. Ronnie had fond memories of family gatherings at his Chudej grandparents' house in Beasley. He forged strong ties with all his cousins there. Later, his family moved to Wallis. There Ronnie attended the Wallis Schools and quickly made friends in his new surroundings. Even though he had to work hard on the family farm, he loved Wallis. Ronnie loved engaging with people everywhere he went. He had a special talent for bringing laughter out of everyone he came across. He met his future wife at a dance at Riverside Hall in East Bernard. Shortly thereafter, Ronnie joined the Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War years. When he completed his military service, he returned to the states and married Carolyn Vitek in Houston at Resurrection Catholic Church. For several years Ronnie worked at jobs while also attending college at the University of Houston Downtown and then at Sam Houston State University. After completing his degree, Ronnie became a sales representative for Gerber Baby Products. Ronnie and Carolyn then bought their first house and a baby, Rhonda, was born. Fatherhood suited Ronnie. He loved the baby and spoiled her, just as he spoiled every dog or cat he ever owned. Ronnie moved his family back home to Wallis in 1976. It was there that he changed occupations and became a building contractor. He was created for building things. He loved this line of work. Even though Ronnie had a heart attack and underwent quadruple-bypass surgery in 1987 performed by Dr. Denton Cooley, he recovered as quickly as he could and went back to work building houses. In fact, Dr. Cooley had Ronnie build a house for his own family on Cool Acres Ranch in nearby Orchard. As later years ensued, his daughter, Rhonda, married Ray Wied, and in time, two grandsons were born. Ronnie then loved spoiling the grandkids. He spent countless hours sharing with his grandsons his love of nature, both at Cat Springs and at the farm. Walks in the creek and rides on the tractor were special treats for the boys. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Irene Raska; his brother, James Raska; his sister-in-law, Joan Raska ; and his nephew, Shane Raska. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Rhonda Wied; his son-in-law, Ray Wied; his grandchildren, Brandon Wied (Taylor Wied) and Eric Wied; and his expectant great-grandson. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a rosary at 10:30 AM, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5518 Demel Street, Wallis, TX. Pallbearers are Brandon Wied, Eric Wied, Tyler Raska, Colin Crawford, Ryan Crawford, and Kody Ressler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guardian Angel Church, Texas Heart Institute, or for Masses.
