It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys Muriel Coleman Nelson , age 88, of Robertsdale, Alabama, who peacefully left us on March 13, 2025. She was born on August 4, 1936, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Denny and Muril Coleman. Gladys was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her infectious laugh and unwavering love for her family and God. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Ed Coleman, John Coleman, DC Coleman, Edna Coleman Moore, and Laure Coleman Parker. She was also a 5th-Great-Granddaughter of the American pioneer Col. Daniel Morgan Boone. Gladys spent her childhood in Bay Minette, where she developed a strong sense of family and faith. She graduated from Bay Minette High School in 1954, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the glee club. She enjoyed traveling with her closest friends, always returning home with adventurous stories to share. She dedicated 47 years of her life working at South Baldwin Hospital, where she was passionate about her work, the patients, and her fellow employees. Her kindness and dedication left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her greatest joy in life was being "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for making them their favorite cinnamon toast and for dropping by with banana popsicles when they were sick. She always encouraged them to "make a memory," a phrase they will cherish forever. Gladys was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Robertsdale, where her faith was an anchor in her life. She was also a wonderful cook, known especially for her biscuits and fried chicken, which brought her family together around the table for countless cherished meals. The funeral was held Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Mack Funeral Home followed by burial in Old Cooper Cemetery in Robertsdale, Alabama. Gladys will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
