Ellis Hagler May 1, 1929 - March 1, 2025 McWhorter Funeral Home Funeral services for Ellis Hagler, 95, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, March 10, 2025, at McWhorter Funeral Home with David Cotham and John C. Isaacs officiating. Interment to follow at Sand Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm prior to the service. Ellis was born on May 1, 1929, in Gilmer, Texas, to John Buford Hagler and Martha Ophelia Shaw Hagler and passed from this life March 1, 2025, surrounded by his family. Ellis proudly served our country in the United States Army. He married Mary Jo Witt on December 24, 1953, in Gilmer, Texas. Ellis worked as a Final Pipe Inspector for Lone Star Steel for 33 years before retirement. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, and fishing. Camping, fishing and fish fries with his family and friends at Lake Tawakoni led to many treasured memories. He was a Sandhill Church of Christ member and served on the Sandhill Cemetery Association board for many years. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Kathy Carpenter (David Moody), Vernon Eugene Hagler, Paula Tucker (Kevin), and Grace Isaacs (John C.); brothers, Donald Hagler and Lindley Hagler; sister, Francis Young; grandchildren, Keith Goddard (Molly), Dane Ellis Goddard (Angela), Jennifer Thompson (Kyle), Chase Hagler, Peyton Sparks (Ted), Lindsey Downs (Ken), Chelsey Watts (Blake), Edward Isaacs (Shannon), and Adam Isaacs (Aubrie); great grandchildren, Nathan Goddard, Hannah Goddard, Kayden Hagler, Gage Sparks, Kruz Sparks, Colt Ellis Sparks, Bristol White, Clark Watts, Emmeline Watts, William Ellis Watts, Howard Watts, Jack Ellis Thompson, Theodore Isaacs, Ellis Downs, Kaylee Goddard, Robyn Goddard, and Gabriella Goddard. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jo Hagler; son, Rodney Hagler; brothers, Granville Hagler, Verl Hagler, and Johnie Hagler; and his sisters, Geneva McKinley and Glendaree McNamee. Pallbearers will be Keith Goddard, Dane Goddard, Ted Sparks, Ken Downs, Blake Watts, Edward Isaacs, and Adam Isaacs. The family would like to express their appreciation to Focused Care of Gilmer, Heart to Heart Hospice, Dee Wayne, and Christina Forbus for the love and care given to Ellis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Sand Hill Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 644, Gilmer, Texas 75644.
