Bio

Margaret "Nanny" Spaniel was born in Ennis Tx, July 30, 1932, to Joe and Anna Slovak. She was reared in Ennis and was a faithful member of St John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She Married George Frank Spaniel, Sr on August 31 1948 and they made their home in Ennis and Telico. Margaret was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress. Whether it was Barbie clothes, men's suits, wedding gowns and everything in between each were uniquely, beautifully crafted. The dolls she dressed for the St John's Bazaar were always a prize to behold, especially the one's dressed in a Czech costume. Food was her love language, and what a cook she was! She was awarded "The Greatest Kolache Maker In The World" by the EHS Jr. Class 1975-76. That was a huge fund-raiser success, which lead to many more she did, not only with her children, but some with her grandchildren as well. She taught many a student how to make apple strudels for other school fund-raisers and she assisted with the Lionette's cookie mix jars. The Telico Fire Department was not complete without her famous huge German chocolate cakes. Mouthwatering Sunday dinners were always a treat. Pass the fried chicken and mashed potatoes, please! Her popcorn balls and snow ice cream were childhood favorites. But making jaternice was a favorite for her to do. Her love and caring nature could be found in the careers she chose outside the home, from managing George's Food Mart, serving as a dietitian at Ennis Care Center, St John Nepomucene Catholic School Cafeteria and Austin Elementary School or being proprietor of Amelia Ann Florist. She was proud of her Czech heritage and enjoyed Czech dances, weddings and other Czech festivities. Her hobbies included fishing, puzzling and traveling with her children. Margaret is survived by her children: Margaret Catherine Satsky and husband, George, Mary Ann Trojacek, Ramona Elizabeth Jakubik and husband, Ernest, George Frank Spaniel, Jr. and wife, Maureen, Johnny Raymond Spaniel and wife, Judy, Cynthia Jo Brazil, Thomas Joseph Spaniel and wife, Vicki, Judith Gail Huddle, Susan Diane Tekell, Jeannie Renee Spaniel and Karleen Marie Henry and husband, Jon Pat; thirty-one grandchildren: sixty-eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
