Bio

Delphine A. Stepanek, age 90, of Fremont passed away Friday, February 21, 2025. Delphine was born May 1, 1934, near Prague, Nebraska to Emil and Kathryn (Vanek) Sedlacek. She graduated from Marietta High School near Bellwood, attended Wayne State College, and taught K-8 school for several years. Delphine married Charles Anton Stepanek on October 20, 1956, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Schuyler. The couple lived in New Ulm, Minnesota for 11 years and then moved to Fremont. As a stay-at-home mom, Delphine was dedicated to raising her six children. Later she became a CNA and worked for many years at the Fremont hospital. After retiring, both Delphine and her husband worked for the Fremont public schools in custodial services. Delphine was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, serving as president of St. Joan of Arc, making kolaces for the church festival, and singing with the New Life Choir. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and square dancing with Charles. Additionally, she encouraged her children in 4-H, public speaking, and theater activities, and was a strong advocate for her special-needs son, Russell. Delphine is survived by daughters, Roxanne Merizalde of Cedar Park, Texas, Laurie Stepanek of Lincoln, Angela (Braulio) Araya of Grand Island; sons, Charles (Leigh) Stepanek of Lincoln, and Russell Stepanek of Omaha; sister, Deanna (George) Brandsberg of Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Delphine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Andrew, granddaughter, Kristina, and siblings, Dorothy, Dennis and Dolores. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 27, 2025 at St Patrick Church in Fremont. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday with a Rosary at 7 PM all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Thursday, from 9:30-10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
