Bio

Gladys Opal Carter, 78, of Quanah, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 in Crowell. A graveside funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11th, at Quanah Memorial Park. Rev. Tommy Elder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 10th at Smith Funeral Home. Gladys was born March 8, 1942 in Hendrix, Oklahoma to Acie and Dorothy (Fann) Stubblefield. She married Fred L. Carter, Jr. in Denison, Texas on March 5, 1976. Together, they raised 7 children. Fred preceded her in death February 21, 2008. Gladys worked as a Certified Medication Aide at Quanah Nursing Center and several other nursing homes. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist church. Survivors include 4 daughters – Sammie Lagrone of Quanah, Leona Brace of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Glenda Carter of Quanah, Debbie Brackin of Arlington; 3 sons – Michael Carter of Quanah, Steven Carter of Quanah, Weldon Ely of Yarnaby, Oklahoma; 1 sister - Onean Gibby; David and Joann, whom she raised; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, first husband, David Hiram Ely, and second husband, Fred Carter, Jr., she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Merline Stubblefield. Smith Funeral Home Quanah, Texas
