Bio

Memorial service for Arthur J. "Art" Vyhlidal, 88 of Creighton formerly of Pierce, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Pastor Caleb Wehling. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Prospect View Cemetery, Pierce. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk. Art died on Friday, January 31, 2025 at UNMC in Omaha, NE. Art was born on June 23, 1936 in Pierce County to Joseph Sr. and Cora (Heller) Vyhlidal. He attended Country Schools district 3 and 10 and at age 16 he became a truck driver for Eining Sand and Gravel East of Pierce. Driving truck was his passion along with working with his brother Butch at gravel pits around Battle Creek and Meadow Grove for Don Kallogg at Norfolk Pit and lastly at the Center gravel pit for Backus Sand and Gravel. Art loved people and enjoyed visiting with all the farmers and businesses. He was a perfectionist and many customers would request for Art to deliver the load as he would do it just as they wanted. Several years back Art had 45 years of experience driving truck. In 2018 he suffered a massive stroke and overcame it, which was a surprise to many people. The stroke limited his activity of truck driving, but he still kept very busy until the past year. Art and Judy sold their acreage in 2019 and moved to Creighton, NE. The love of Art's life is their son, Bill, always attending Bill's activities especially the Boy Scout Trips and Camping. Also working on Bill's cars, keeping them loud and fast. Art married Judy Ann Bockelman on June 30, 1963 at Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce. The couple where members of Christ Lutheran until their move to Creighton. Art is survived by his wife of 61 years Judy Vyhlidal of Creighton, son Bill Vyhlidal of Sioux Falls, SD, brother-in-law Louis Herbolsheimer of Hartington, many nieces, nephews, good friends, and beloved dog Sammie. Art was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Cora, sisters Jean Jenkins, Sophie Eldhart, Patty Herbolsheimer, brothers Joe Jr., Butch, and infant brother Dale.
