Bio
Barbara Jean Crabtree Sliger, age 89 of Athens, surrounded by her loving family, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Parkwest Medical Center of Knoxville. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late William Jacob and Edith Jaynes Crabtree. She was a wife, mother, grandmother , pastor's wife and homemaker. Her life was blessed by all these titles. She loved the Lord, her family and her church family. JOY (Jesus, Others and You) she learned this song as a young child, and it meant so much to her. What a wonderful way to spell JOY. She always enjoyed being with her family for meals, holidays and birthday parties. Barbara was affectionately referred to as "Tittle Bug". Preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ralph Sliger; her son, Stacy Ralph Sliger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Lavonne Crabtree , Rev. Glenn and Shirley Crabtree; sister and brother-in-law, Maudie and Jim Ratledge; brother, Otis Crabtree; sister, Lois Jenkins. Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, January 17, 2025 at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Sliger officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11am-1pm Friday at the church before the service. The interment will be at McMinn Memory Gardens following the service. Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
