Bio

On January 10, 2025, JoAnn Vaughn Valenti received an offer that she could not refuse, for an arrangement in which she will not be returning. Her new mission comes with a rather large bonus which will allow her the opportunity to be reunited with family and friends that she has not seen for quite some time. Her journey has taken her to a beautiful place where she will be socializing, dancing, and watching Alabama football as much as she pleases. An endless amount of laughter, music, and love are guaranteed. JoAnn, a resident of Elsanor, AL, was born on November 15, 1935 to Howard Florida Vaughn and Verna Merchant Vaughn. She was one of 12 children. JoAnn was not one to shy away from a dare. One day she accepted a dare from her sister and asked a handsome young sailor for his comb at the potato shed in Robertsdale. From that moment on, she was hooked and went on to marry that sailor, Leroy A Valenti Jr, in 1954. Together they had three beautiful daughters and built a life they loved. JoAnn never met a stranger and greeted everyone with her infectious smile. Almost everyone she encountered called her "Granny". She was queen of the dance floor and loved to jitterbug. She usually had a Coca Cola in hand, and on Saturdays in the fall you could find her (and quite literally hear her) watching her beloved Crimson Tide. JoAnn's most prized possession was her family. Anyone that knew her knows how extremely proud of them she was. Every time she spoke of one of them her eyes lit up. She took her job as the family matriarch serious and she did her job very well. She made a difference in the lives of many. JoAnn..JoJo.. Granny will be well remembered for her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family, and friends. She fully embraced the saying "If you are going to live, leave a legacy" and that she truly did. She left a legacy of love. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy A Valenti Jr; parents Howard and Verna Vaughn; and 4 siblings. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Robertsdale, AL. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Obituary published to the website of Mack Funeral Home 13 January 2025. Names of the living removed to comply with Find A Grave regulations.
