Bio

Allen Joseph Hegemann, 58, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, from his 2+ year, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Al was born on May 26, 1960, son of Robert W. and Alice J. (Kaup) Hegemann. He married his Archbishop Bergan High School sweetheart, Kim Ropp, on July 23, 1983, and together they shared 35 years of marriage. Al graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a mechanical engineering degree and Colorado Technical University with a Master of Computer Science. He worked as a mechanical engineer since 1983 and computer science software engineer for the last ten years. Al worked for General Dynamics, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin and most recently United Launch Alliance. He really was a Rocket Scientist. He enjoyed outdoor activities, working with the STEM School Highlands Ranch as a mentor for the robotics and rocketry student competitions and was a sailing instructor when living in San Diego. In addition to his wife, Kim, he is survived by his children, Andy, 21, Alex, 10, and Lizzy, 10; his parents, Bob and Alice Hegemann; his siblings, Doreen (Bill) Beaudette, Lorie (Joel) Scherling, Paul (Laurie) Hegemann, Steve (Jennifer) Hegemann; nieces and nephews, Bryce (Tracey) Kolund, Ben (Sydney Wegner) Beaudette, Megan (Niraj) Patel, Jared Scherling, Schuyler, Dominick, Phoenix, Zayn, Ella Rose Hegemann, Barrett, William, Joseph, Henrich Hegemann; great-nephews, Shea and August Kolund; his brothers-in-law, Robert Ropp and William (Mary) Ropp, and their children, Britney, Bruce, Brianna, and Braxton Ropp; and his mother-in-law, Ann Ropp. A Memorial Celebration will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 6-8 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO. A Funeral Mass to honor Al will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 6673 W. Chatfield Ave, Littleton, CO to be immediately followed with a luncheon reception in the Parish Hall. Rev. Gary Brethour, Al's college roommate, will be officiating at the services.
