From the Des Moines Register, October 28, 1989, p. 13: Ames, Ia. - Private memorial services will be today for Richard Koupal, 68, of Ames who died of a heart ailment Friday at Mary Greeley Medical Center. The body was cremated. Mr. Koupal was born in Nebraska and lived in Ames for 35 years. He retired in 1986 as a professor of music at Iowa State University. He was a veteran of the Navy and was a member of Rotary International. Survivors include a son, Matthew of Chicago; a daughter, Diana Baum of Washington, D. C.; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to United Way. Arrangements are being handled by Adams Funeral Home.
