Robert H. Couser was born on January 18, 1931 in Prosper, Texas. He was raised on the family farm outside of Prosper. Bob graduated from McKinney High School and as soon as he graduated, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He was sent to Korea where he was wounded in battle, earning a Purple Heart. Upon his return to civilian life, he attended North Texas State Teacher's College (now Univ. of North Texas), becoming a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. During his college years, Bob met another student there, his future wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Dishman. Bob graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. Bob married Dottie in 1954, beginning the first of 59 years until Dottie's death in 2013. Bob's first job out of college was in Beaumont, Texas as a construction fastener salesman. After some time, he was hired by DuPont which began a career that lasted 30 years and found him transferred to cities in West Virginia, Ohio, Louisiana and La Porte and Orange, Texas. Bob retired from DuPont in 1988 and then spent most of his time playing golf, hunting and fishing. He also served on many committees at the 1st United Methodist Church in Orange, Texas and volunteered for many organizations including Habitat for Humanity.
