Mary Anna Kirby, 87, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016, at a Denton hospital. Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rosston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Krueger officiating. Interment: Rosston Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Meador Funeral Home of Gainesville. Mrs. Kirby was born to Ernest Kyle and Jewel Alene Pennington Couser in Prosper on March 27, 1928. She married Dr. Vernon V. Kirby on June 1946 in San Antonio; he preceded her in death July 4, 2008. Mrs. Kirby was a genealogist, American Rose Society grand champion and a member of Rosston United Methodist Church. She was a talented artist, and played the organ and piano for Methodist churches since the age of 9. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Cyril Reece. Survivors: Sons, Clark Kirby and wife, Patty, of Arlington and Mark Kirby and wife, Lourdes; daughters, Dr. Janet Kirby of Frisco and Diane Thornton and husband, Dannie, of Prairie Point; brother, Robert Couser of Longview; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
