Mary A. Cerny, 68, of Columbus, NE, passed away on January 2, 2025, at Emerald Nursing Home in Columbus. She was born on February 5, 1956, in Omaha, NE, to Don and LouAnn (Loseke) Everett. Mary graduated from Leigh Community Schools in 1974. She worked at MARC for 15 years, and at Super Saver and Lotto Nebraska in Columbus. She was a co-owner of the 4 Star Diner in Columbus with her mother and two sisters. In her younger years Mary enjoyed going to concerts, Oak Ridge Boys and Sawyer Brown were her favorites and enjoyed bowling. Mary was a proud godmother to nephews Derek Kucera and Justin Everett. She loved her cats and dogs she had during her life and cherished some travels she got to do with her mom. On April 8, 1998, Mary married Daniel Cerny, together they had one daughter. She is survived by her husband and daughter, Rebecca Cerny of Shenandoah, IA; two bonus children, Nicholas Cerny and Jessica Martens; five grandchildren, Zethany Cerny, Zane Cerny, Caiden Hanson, Bryce Hofer, and Aryia Nespor; siblings, Jeanette (Ed) Sitzman of Duncan, Dave (Connie) Everett of Columbus, and Carolyn (Monty) Koch of Creston and many nieces and nephews. Father-in-law Dave Cerny, in laws of Doug Cerny, Dustin Cerny, Lana Cerny and Lacey Cerny. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Don and LouAnn Everett; one brother, Kurt Everett; and mother-in-law, Linda Cerny. Funeral arrangements at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, Columbus, Nebraska. Visitation Friday, January 10, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service following at Gass-Haney Chapel.
