John Douglas Shimek, 61, passed away at his home on December 12th, 2024. John was born on January 3rd, 1963, in Crawford, NE to Marvin and Nan C. Shimek; he was the New Year's baby. He attended Crawford Public Schools and received his high school diploma in 1982. He attended Chadron State College and majored in business management, graduating in 1986. John served his country in the National Guard from 1983-1987. John lived in Sioux Falls, SD for several years before moving to Greeley, CO where he started his started his own business, Shimek Appraisals. John became a father to Ryan Hunter in March of 2001. John was a car and gun enthusiast. Above all he enjoyed his beloved Husker Football and Volleyball. He could quote stats from years ago to today. John was also a devoted member of his church. John was preceded in death by his father Marvin Floyd Shimek (Crawford, NE). Survivors include mother, Nan C. Shimek (Loveland, CO), brother Paul Shimek (Crawford, NE), sister Emily Westphal (Johnstown, CO), son Ryan Shimek (Lafayette, CO), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. John's wishes were to be cremated, and a Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Adamson Life Celebration Home.
