Caroline Lela Valdivia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 19, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at North Pointe Baptist Church. Interment: 3 p.m. in Van Alstyne Cemetery, Van Alstyne. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Caroline was born July 19, 1937, in Valparaiso, Chile, the daughter of Southern Baptist missionary parents. She was a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Caroline was a teacher for the Birdville Independent School District for 44 years, having retired in 2004. She taught at Watauga Elementary, Watauga Middle School and most recently was a Spanish teacher at Haltom High School, where she also was the sponsor for the High on Life group for many years. Caroline was a longtime member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and taught high school girls Sunday school and Bible study groups for many years. She was also involved in home and foreign missions that included trips to Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Brazil and Guatemala. Caroline was a member of North Pointe Baptist Church, where she served in the Pointe of Praise Choir. She ministered to high school girls needing to fulfill community service requirements by mentoring them in the Mission Makeover organization. She was predeceased by her parents, Isaiah and Oline Valdivia, and brother, Jerry Valdivia. Survivors: Nephew, Douglas Valdivia of Houston; several cousins; and a host of friends.
