Joan Ruby Strickrodt of Parma, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family December 1, 2024. She was born February 1, 1936 in International Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Milton and Ethel Sackreiter. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years William "Bill" Strickrodt; son, Anthony "Tony" Strickrodt; son-in-law, Timothy Thompson; parents; twin brother, Jack, and brothers, Eugene and Don Sackreiter. Joan is survived by her loving daughters, Kimberly Thompson, Tracy (Joel) Smiley and Sally (Mark) Sherwood; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Joanie moved to Jackson, Michigan from International Falls, Minnesota when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 and began working at Timkins where she met the love of her life, Bill Strickrodt. They married and raised their children in Jackson where she was involved at First Church of Christ, conducting Sunday school teaching and ministry service preparation. She stayed at home to help raise their children while caring for other children and began working for Blackman Township in the early 70's until retirement. Her hobbies included the garden club, cooking, sewing, needlework, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, painting and playing board games until wee hours in the morning with her grandchildren. She enjoyed her weekend get aways at their cabin with her family. Joanie always made time with her friends. Joanie's biggest pleasure in life was spending time with family, her husband, children and grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-3 P.M. and 5-7 P.M. at Sherwood Funeral Home, Grass Lake. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Grass Lake United Methodist Church, 449 E. Michigan Ave., Grass Lake with visitation from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
