William Strickrodt Obituary Strickrodt, William Robert 8/17/1935 - 1/1/2024 William Robert "Bill" Strickrodt of Parma formerly of Jackson, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family January 1, 2024. He was born August 17, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of William and Mary Strickrodt. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony "Tony" Strickrodt; sisters, Mary Alice Emerson and Jean Arthur Steffey. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan; daughters, Kimberley Thompson, Tracy (Joel) Smiley and Sally (Mark) Sherwood; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Bill was raised on a farm in Stockbridge and graduated from high school where he played basketball and began his love for sports. He then moved to Jackson where he met his wife Joan while working at Timkins. They married and raised their children in Jackson where he was involved in coaching hockey, girls' softball and little league. Bill was an avid sports fan of the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and Lions, in addition to the University of Michigan Wolverines. Family meant everything to Bill and some of his greatest pleasures in life was watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed his cabin up north with his family and hunting buddies. He retired from Aeroquip with 35 years of service and was a leader and advocate for his division of the United Auto Workers. Bill had a passion for country music and was known as D.J. "Pecos Bill" with the local radio station, IBM. Billl loved being in nature. He developed a love for woodworking and opened his own business, named "Strickrodt Wood-Working". This passion led him to design and carve wooden canes for the local Jackson Retired Veterans. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm at Sherwood Funeral Home, Grass Lake. Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, January 5, 2024 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 2395 W. High Street, Jackson with Rev. Michael Mason officiating. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grass Lake Warrior Club, 899 South Union Street, Grass Lake, MI 49240.
