Leroy Brister February 4, 1934 - October 5, 2024 Funeral services for Mr. Leroy Brister will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Pitkin, with Reverends Eugene Williams and Hardy Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Drakes Fork Cemetery, Cravens, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mr. Brister, 90, of Pitkin, entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Leroy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pitkin. He loved his family, and he was loved by them and will be greatly missed. In his younger days he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He read the Bible cover to cover five times and made it all the way to Psalm 24 on his sixth go around. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Glenelle Brister; his parents, Jasper and Viola Brister; one grandson, Allen Lee Slaughter; and one great-great grandson, Jasper Cox. Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include two sons, Gervis Brister (Sandy) of Pitkin, and Gary Brister (fiancé, Lisa) of Pitkin; two daughters, Sheila Slaughter of Union Hill, and Karen Williams (Eugene) of Deridder; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Pitkin, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Dayln Slaughter, Logan Slaughter, Conner Slaughter, Jodie Cannon, Joel Cheek, and Heath Slaughter.
