Bio
Rex Woodrow Bolin, 93, of Sullivan, died at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, in St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur. Rex was born August 1, 1914, in Kirksville, the son of John Henry and Bessie Nora (Gustin) Bolin. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1932. He was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard. After attending Brown's Business College in Decatur, he was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Sullivan. Rex married Mabel Mardelle McCain on March 21, 1937, in Bethany. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on March 21, 2008. During his career with the Post Office, Rex served as city mail carrier, money order clerk, assistant postmaster, and acting postmaster, then retiring after 38 years of service in 1973. Rex was a member of the First Christian Church of Sullivan. He served his church as a Sunday School Treasurer, Deacon, and church Board Secretary. Rex was also a member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) and the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society. Rex is survived by his wife Mardelle, sons, Richard (Lois) of Mt. Zion, Jerry (Janet) of Champaign, Leon (Barb) of Decatur, Roger (Sabrina) of Springfield, twelve grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren, and a sister Fern McKown of Sullivan. Rex was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Bolin. Rex was a kind, caring, honest Christian man of true integrity and good example. He was a hard working and generous person who loved and took good care of his wife and family in many ways. He was a gentle, but strong man who assessed all aspects of his life as being positive. Rex was loved by all and will be missed by all, but we will see him again. Published in the Journal Gazette & Times-Courier from 6/3/2008 - 6/4/2008.
