Bio

Jack M. Bailey, 74, died at his home in Winner on September 10, 1993. He was born on December 9, 1918 in Winner. In 1940 he graduated from South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy. He served in the Army during World War II with the 134th Infantry Regiment of the 35th Division. In July 1939 he married Dorothy Roller at Mitchell. His wife died May 3, 1960. He married Ellen Andersen on May 10, 1961 in Osceola, Nebraska. He worked in partnership with his father until 1961 when his father died. He continued to work at the pharmacy until he sold it in 1970. He was a member of the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy from 1974 until 1980 and president of the Winner Pharmaceutical Association District. In 1982 he received the Bowl of Hygeia Award, the most recognized international symbol of pharmacy. He was a member of the Baptist Hospital Board, the first zoning board, and received the Jaycees Boss of the Year Award. He was past president of the Winner Chamber of Commerce, Winner Rotary, Basin League Baseball and the Tripp County Historical Society. He was Tripp County Centennial King and was honored at the 1992 Tripp County Historical Society's outstanding member for past achievement. Survivors include his wife, daughter Kathryn "Kitty" Little, and two grandsons.
