Obituary (from the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow funeral home website): Elizabeth Jansa Gray (Liz), beloved wife, mother and public servant, passed away on August 2, 2024, at 84. Born on June 26, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, Liz was the daughter of Frank and Mary Anna (Dvoracek) Jansa. She married David Madison Gray in 1961 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas. Liz was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dave and her sister Mary Jo Marek. Liz attended William Lipscomb Grade School, Sacred Heart Cathedral School and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in 1958. She worked at Gibraltar Life Insurance Co. and Texas Instruments before beginning a 44-year career with Collin County in 1976. During her tenure, she served in various roles within the Sheriff's Department, Purchasing, and Public Works/Equipment Services. She was inducted into the National Public Fleet Hall of Fame in 2020 for her contributions to the Public Fleet Professionals industry. A Lucas, Texas resident since 1966, Liz was a lifelong Catholic and attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen. She was an avid sports fan, enjoying tennis, volleyball, basketball and softball, and a loyal supporter of Texas A&M University and Allen Eagles Athletics. Liz leaves behind her three sons, David Gray II, John Gray and Jeffrey Gray (Kathy); grandchildren, Kelby (Ella) and Chloe. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Cyril Marek, nieces Catherine Lapinski (Tom) and Teresa Marek, nephew Thomas Marek (Fiorella), and two great-nieces and a great-nephew. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002 where her memory will be honored, and her spirit will continue to shine bright. A rosary service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Following the service, the family will host a reception. Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Fitzgugh Cemetery in Lucas, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur- The Western Region in Fort Worth or The Samaritan Inn of McKinney.
