Malcolm H. Weathers, Jr. DU 7 Jun 1989 Dr. Malcolm H. Weathers, Jr., 68, a prominent Loretto Citizen, died Monday, June 6, at Crockett General Hospital in Lawrenceburg following a short illness. Weathers was the son of the late Malcolm H. Weathers, Sr. and Maude Grisham Weathers. A native of Loretto, he attended public schools in Loretto, Vanderbilt University, and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma social fraternity and was president of Phi Rho Sigma Medical Fraternity. Weathers served his internship at Nashville General Hospital and his residency at Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital and practiced general and internal medicine in Lawrence County since 1948, except for two years service in the military from 1953 to 1955. During his time in the military, Weathers was a U.S. Army Captain and Chief Admissions Officer and Chief of Outpatient Clinics at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver, Colorado. In 1957, he established Weathers General Hospital in Loretto and operated the hospital until 1985. A former mayor of the city of Loretto from 1962 to 1966, Weathers was also: president of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, 1962-1963; a former member of the Lawence County School Board; a former member of the Lawrence County Library Board; and was a present member of the Lawrence County Mental Health Board; Medical Director of the Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home; member of the Crockett General Hospital general staff; Lawrence County Medical Society; Tennessee Medical Association; former member of the American Medical Association; former Commander of the American Legion Post 146, Loretto; and former president of the Loretto Lions Club. Weathers is survived by his wife, Mary Eleanor Weathers; two sons, Malcolm Houston Weathers, III, MD, of Tampa, FL; John Gregory Weathers, Loretto; two daughters, Emily Catherine Kennedy, Athens, AL; Mariann Neidert Weathers, Nashville, TN; one granddaughter, Claire Emilia Kennedy; two sisters, Eula M. Newton, Lawrenceburg; Juanita B. Weathers, Loretto; one brother, Lloyd H. Weathers, St. Joseph; several nieces and nephews. Weathers lies in state at Loretto Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Loretto. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Father Richard Buchignani and Rev.
