C.O. Weathers DU 22 Jan 1943 Huge Crowd Attends Funeral Of Sheriff Attesting the esteem in which Sheriff C.O. Weathers was held, who was brutally stabbed to death last week, one of the largest crowds of people ever to attend a funeral in this county, was here to pay last respects. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church here Friday afternoon, with Rev. H. H. Austin saying the last rites. Interment was in the Loretto cemetery. Sheriff Weathers is survived by his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Weathers of Loretto, two sisters, Miss Juanita Weathers of Loretto; and Mrs. William T. Newton of this city; four brothers, Emmett O. Weathers of Nashville; Lloyd H. Weathers of Great lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill.; Malcolm H Weathera of Memphis and Hilary G. The inmate was convicted of the murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Sheriff Weathers was serving his third term as sheriff when he was murdered.
